Cochlear Implants

Cochlear Implants have improved the hearing of millions of people around the world.  They are effective, long-term solutions for people with one-sided deafness or with hearing loss whose current hearing aids don’t seem to be working as well as they once did.

But until recently, people who could benefit from this marvelous technology have had to travel long distances to treatment centres in Sydney, Canberra or Melbourne.

Now people living in the Nowra Region and Shoalhaven on the NSW South Coast can have convenient access to this life-changing technology at one of our centres located in Vincentia and Ulladulla. Get in touch to find out more.
We fit all brands of implantable device, after careful evaluation of each individual we look at the best alternative for the situation at hand and liaise with all professionals including your surgeon.  Cochlear implants are available from Cochlear, Med El and Oticon.

We are excited to also provide Bone Anchored Hearing Aid solutions (BAHA) and have access to all brands.

If you think you may be a candidate or are simply interested in improving your hearing performance, speak to your clinician at your next review or complete the form below and we will make contact with you.

Whats involved?

Candidacy, how do I know if I’m a suitable candidate?

Cochlear implant and Bone anchored hearing aid technology has spectacular results in providing access to hearing for suitable candidates.  Its important that you work with a trained professional to identify your suitability.  Your audiologist will look at your audiogram, ask you about what situations you wish to hear in, what stops you from hearing now and how motivated you are.  They will also identify if you can be helped by improving your current situation.  Your Audiologist will perform a number of tests and arrange appointments for specialist medical evaluation.

If you are found to be suitable your Audiologist will ask you if you have hospital cover insurance.  Hospital cover health insurance covers the cost of the device reducing the cost significantly.   Other costs associated with implant technology are Audiology fees (pre and post surgery), Ear Nose and Throat Specialist (surgeon) and Anesthetist fees.   These costs are eligible for medicare rebates and this reduces them significantly.   All up an implant can cost less than $2000.

Your audiologist can also arrange for you to meet an implant user and for you to look at several of the products available.  We want to be able to support you all the way through your journey and provide you with access to the technology and the expertise to support you regionally.

We can;

  • Evaluate you for cochlear implant or Bone anchored hearing aid suitability
  • Arrange to meet an implant user
  • Medical referral
  • Manage your case from candidacy, liaison with medical specialists, through to switch on and routine implant mapping and maintenance
  • Map your cochlear implant or bone anchored hearing aid
  • Annual check ups
  • Bimodal fitting (set your hearing aid and implant up to work together)
  • Set up wireless technology
  • Discuss prosthesis options, we work with all brands.
